Property services team streamlines amicable land acquisition and expropriation process across the York Region with Masterworks Right of Way

Project information was stored across several disparate systems. Land project details, parcels, agreements, and easements were held in Excel and Word files, GIS data was stored in Geocortex, final documents in eDocs, and key information was manually entered into an SQL database for reporting. Significant time and effort was spent mining data from the SQL database to produce status updates and risk assessments. The team needed a COTS solution that could integrate with their ESRI system, restrict sensitive document access to authorized personnel, and serve as a centralized repository for all land transaction management.

In 2017, York Region's property services division began evaluating solutions for capital project planning, scoring, and justification. After assessing multiple options, the team selected Masterworks to streamline its land acquisition and expropriation processes.

The solution included more than 70 legal templates, automated workflows for amicable acquisition and expropriation, and GIS details for every parcel and easement.
